Wars drive technology. All wars end...eventually.

From time beyond reckoning, since the days of the High Kings, the Kindred of Elf and Dwarf have fought the hosts of Darkness. That ancient war is coming to an end. The Hosts of Light have made their last stand in a narrow mountain pass, enduring endless bombardment by the Orc legions. Once the lines crumble, the Orcs will sweep across the land, and the Kindred will perish. It is only a matter of time, and only a miracle can save them.

One young Elf soldier holds that miracle in his hands, if he can just get them to listen...

This story is based on a logical extension of J. R. R. Tolkein's 'Lord Of The Rings'. Over the centuries, the pressure of war has pushed an arms race as the Orcs returned with each generation, claiming more lives and more land with each succeeding wave. The proud lineage of the Kindred faded as their losses mounted, and sword and bow gave way to trenches and machine guns. Now they are a lost people; their heritage all but forgotten, waiting numbly for the final blow to fall. But not everyone has forgotten their glorious past, nor given up hope. There is one faint chance left - but young Aelendor is a common soldier in a host on the brink of despair; no one has the faith to believe him, any more. If he is to save the Kindred, he must do the unthinkable...

Ultimately, this is a story about a people having faith - and losing faith - in themselves; of individual courage in the face of complacency and despair; of confronting hopeless odds because you have nothing left to lose; of knowing when to defy the system because you have a higher loyalty to that system than to meekly follow orders.

Author's comments

The experts have told me that classic High Fantasy is an overdone, worn out trope that no one is interested in any more; that D & D has done the form unto death; that there is nothing left to say about Elves, Dwarves, and Orcs. They should know better than to throw such a challenge in my face...
